Twenty-five years have passed since the attacks of September 11, 2001, but the significance of that day has not diminished.
We remember the 2,977 people who were killed, the families whose lives were forever changed, the survivors who carried the events of that morning with them, and the thousands of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, rescue and recovery workers, and civilians who responded when they were needed most. We also remember those whose service continued long after September 11 disappeared from the daily headlines. Many of the men and women who worked at Ground Zero and other affected sites later suffered serious illnesses connected to their exposure, while members of our Armed Forces and their families would carry the consequences of the attacks for years to come. Service Is Built Before It Is Needed One of the enduring lessons of September 11 is that response does not begin when an emergency occurs. The ability to respond is built beforehand through preparation, training, experience, infrastructure, logistics, communication, and people who understand their responsibilities when circumstances suddenly change. Much of that work happens quietly and receives little attention. First responders train for emergencies they hope never occur. Military personnel prepare for missions they cannot completely predict. Logistics and support teams position equipment, supplies, and resources so they are available when needed. Public servants, contractors, tradespeople, transportation professionals, medical personnel, and countless others contribute to systems that most of us rarely think about until those systems are tested. September 11 demonstrated why that preparation matters, but it also demonstrated something that no process or plan can manufacture: the willingness of people to step forward when others need them. Remembering Those Who Served At W&K Container, Inc., we have had the privilege of supporting U.S. government and military customers for many years. That work has given us an appreciation for the enormous network of people involved in supporting national defense, logistics, readiness, and public service. We recognize that our role is only one small part of a much larger system. Behind every requirement are people responsible for preparing, maintaining, moving, supporting, and protecting the resources our country depends upon. Many of them will never be publicly recognized for what they do, but their work matters nonetheless. September 11 is an appropriate time to recognize service in all of its forms, particularly those who run toward difficult situations rather than away from them and those who spend their careers preparing to answer a call they hope never comes. Twenty-Five Years Later As September 11 increasingly moves from lived memory into history, preserving the meaning of the day becomes more important. Future generations should understand not only what happened, but also the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, service, and humanity demonstrated in response. The passage of time does not lessen what was lost, nor does it diminish the sacrifices made by those who responded that morning, worked through the recovery that followed, served our country in the years afterward, or continue to live with the consequences today. On this 25th anniversary of September 11, W&K Container, Inc. remembers those who lost their lives, honors those who answered the call to serve, and extends our deepest respect to their families and to those who continue serving our communities and our country. May their service and sacrifice never be forgotten. Never Forget. #September11 #PatriotDay #NeverForget #Service #Military #FirstResponders
